¹⁷ He was filled with fear and said, “How terrible this place is! This is truly the house of God, this is the gate to heaven.”

¹⁸ In the morning Jacob arose early, took the rock that he had used as a pillow, and erected it as a pillar pouring oil on top of it. ¹⁹ He named the place Bethel,^[a] although the city had previously been called Luz.
